The regular MACC season ends Saturday, with our 11th race. Awards for the season are given out Saturday night. Sunday, we have a once-in-a-season dual slalom: the Cantor Cup.
![]() Mike Jablonski and Debi Koltoniak hand out the Cantor Cup Awards in 2006. The Sunday Race So now, it's time for something completely different. Sunday is a head-to-head modified slalom. (It's a real turny GS best skied with slalom skies but with no shinning because panels are used.) The Sunday Cantor Cup is run like a regular race with the ranking in each class based on the total time from two runs. The dual format is used to provide an alternative format and some fun. The dual format allows the race to proceed rapidly, allowing us to have a relatively late start (to nurse those banquet hangovers) and still finish early. For the past few years, the winner in each class receives a full-sized glass pitcher etched with the MACC logo. In 2006 additional awards were given to the racer in each class who had the best improvement in handicap for the day (the difference between race handicap and old handicap). The day is simple. There are two sessions: one in the morning and one in the early afternoon (see the schedule for the latest times). Awards are handed out at the Othmar Chalet immediately after the courses are taken down, usually within 30 minutes of the race completion. This has traditionally been a good day for creative dressing. Get out the 70's clothing for some good retro, or try other forms of Sunday Sartorial Splendor.

The
History Larry was known for being a very positive, cheerful person and a friend to all, both young and old. He was beloved by family, friends, and even by many of the junior racers he trained with so often during the winter months (and summers out west). Larry was a tremendous competitor in spite of his failing health, and truly embodied the motto "Live to ski, ski to die." Larry's ashes were scattered at two of the race areas he loved most: on the hill at Boyne Mountain and up on the glacier at Mt. Hood, Oregon. There's a nice wood bench placed in his memory at the race hill warming hut, and his skis have found a permanent home in the Eagle's Nest. We also honor Larry with a special race that concludes our season: the Cantor Cup. This race uses head-to-head dual-slalom format for an event that is exciting to watch. It's a great event, packed with music, atmosphere, club picnics, and loads of fun and camaraderie.
