Searchmont
For over a decade, a highlight of our season has been a 3-race weekend at Searchont, in Ontario, Canada. It's an extra 2-drive past Boyne, with an extra 50% vertical. The two most distinctive features of this weekends are:
- Nearly all work in running the races is done by the Searchmont Ski Runners, the group responsible for running races as part of the Northern Ontario Division of Alpine Ontario Alpin. You pay $25/race (Candian) and someone else runs a FIS-quality race for you.
- Friday is a Super-G. A real one. We run it twice: 1st time is a mandetory training run, the second is the official race run.
Feb 2, 2009. The program is almost the same as past years: training for 3 events on Thursday, SG on Fri (1 mandatory training run followed by timed race run), SL on Saturday, GS on Sunday.
This year, lift ticket prices are LOWER and the exchange rate is HIGHER. I.e., LESS MONEY IS NEEDED! Click here for full details on the prices and schedule.

MORE SEARCHMONT NEWS
Just a reminder that the following rules still apply during our racing visit to Searchmont:
- Safety bars on chairs must be used at all times. (Required in Canada.)
- Skis and poles are not to be brought into the building.
- All alcohol must be purchased from the Resort that is consumed on the property. (Provincial law.) Any alcohol, even if it is just in a bag will be confiscated. (This does not apply to alcohol consumed in your rooms.)
- Race runs are CLOSED to warm up runs and high speed skiing is not permitted during inspection. This is mentioned as a safety concern and your assistance in following this policy would be greatly appreciated.
- At registration racers may purchase their lift tickets and race registration for the weekend. Racers will be required to have a lift ticket on them to access the chair and the race registration ticket must be attached to their bib to start any race run. SSR will have a start official checking each participant to verify that they are registered.
SEARCHMONT SKI RUNNERS HONORED
On November 12, 2008, Searchmont Ski Runners (SSR) was selected as Club of the Year by Alpine Canada. The nomination was brought forward by Alpine Ontario. Nancy Esson, President of Alpine Ontario and Mike Richter, Marketing and Partnership Development Manager, congratulated SSR on their achievement shortly thereafter the official letter was received. This prestigious award was a surprise but was a well deserved recognition for the extraordinary efforts by the SSR volunteers, officials, coaches and athletes.
Those of us from the MACC appreciate their efforts and know the high level of experise that they bring to running our races. The race fee that we pay is a major source of their funding and supports youth ski racing in the Searchmont, Ontario area.
